The High Court of Calcutta invites applications for the post of Translator on its Original Side establishment. The appointments are initially on a temporary basis but are likely to become permanent.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Educational Qualifications:
    • Passed Higher Secondary Examination (12th standard) from the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or its equivalent.
    • Knowledge of the vernacular language of the State (Bengali).
  2. Age Limit (as of 10/01/2025):
    • Minimum: 18 years.
    • Maximum: 40 years.
    • Relaxation: 5 years for SC/ST candidates of West Bengal.

Application Process

  1. Fee Payment:
    • SC/ST (West Bengal): ₹400/-
    • Other Categories: ₹800/-
    • Payment through bank challan at Punjab National Bank (Account No. 0091010372343) in favor of Registrar, Original Side, High Court, Calcutta.
  2. Submission Mode:
    • Applications must be submitted in a sealed envelope with the category and post applied for clearly mentioned on the top left corner.
    • Address: Registrar, Original Side, 1st Floor, Main Building, High Court at Calcutta, Kolkata – 700001.
  3. Required Documents:
    • Filled application form in prescribed format.
    • Bank challan receipt.
    • Self-attested copies of:
      • Date of birth proof.
      • Educational certificates (Class 10th & 12th).
      • Caste/Exempted category certificates (if applicable).
    • Two self-addressed envelopes (25 cm x 11 cm) with ₹45 postal stamps.
    • Three identical passport-sized photographs signed by the candidate.

Selection Process

  1. Written Test:
    • Translation from Bengali, Hindi, and Nepali to English (10 marks each).
    • Translation from English to Bengali and Hindi (10 marks each).
    • Total: 50 marks (Qualifying marks: 60%).
  2. Viva-Voce/Interview:
    • Total: 10 marks (Qualifying marks: 40%).
