  • Reservation for Grandchildren of Freedom Fighters: 2% horizontal reservation is applicable for grandchildren of freedom fighters of Bihar who are sanctioned pension by the Central Government.
  • Reservation for Persons with Disabilities (PwBD): Number of posts for PwBD candidates for horizontal reservation as per Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act-2016.
  • Domicile: Only permanent residents of Bihar State are eligible for reservation benefits. Non-residents of Bihar State are not entitled to reservation benefits.

Eligibility Criteria (as on August 01, 2025)

  • Age Limit:
    • Minimum Age: 18 years
    • Maximum Age:
      • Unreserved (Male): 37 years
      • Backward Class, Extremely Backward Class, Backward Class Women, and Unreserved Women: 40 years
      • Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Male & Female): 42 years
    • Age Relaxation:
      • Government employees of Bihar Government: 5 years (subject to maximum 5 attempts in competitive exams).
      • Ex-Servicemen: 3 years plus the period of service in defense forces, provided actual age on application date does not exceed 57 years.
  • Educational Qualification:
    • 10th class pass from a recognized board.
    • Diploma (three-year course) in Automobile Engineering or Mechanical Engineering from an institute recognized by the Central Government or State Government.
    • Must hold a valid driving license for geared motorcycle and light motor vehicle.
    • Note: Learning driving license is not valid. Allied subjects to Automobile Engineering/Mechanical Engineering diploma are not valid.
  • Experience: Relevant practical work experience in repair, overhauling, and inspection of light motor vehicles, heavy goods, or passenger vehicles equipped with both diesel and petrol engines, obtained after acquiring the diploma, from a large automobile engineering workshop registered under the Factories Act.
    • Experience certificate must be issued up to the last date of online application (July 03, 2025).
    • Experience certificate should be issued by a controlling or appointing authority.
    • Experience certificate must include candidate’s name, address, period of experience, and salary, along with bank statement of salary payment.
    • Appointment letter from the workshop must be attached.

Selection Process The selection process will be based on a Written Examination and Interview.

  • Part-1: Written Examination and Interview
    • Written Examination: Consists of three papers:
      1. Paper I – General Studies: 100 marks, 2 hours duration, Objective & Multiple Choice. Syllabus includes Arithmetic, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Geography, History, Economics, and Political Science at Matric level, plus questions on Indian Constitution, Five-Year Plans, Freedom Movement, and Current Affairs (Scientific Progress, National/International Awards/Languages/Books/Scripts/Capitals/Currencies/Sports-Players/Important Events, etc.).
      2. Paper II – Automobile OR Mechanical Engineering: 100 marks, 2 hours duration, Objective & Multiple Choice. Syllabus as prescribed by Bihar State Board of Technical Education for Automobile Engineering Diploma or Mechanical Engineering Diploma. (Candidates will choose one subject).
      3. Paper III – Motor Vehicle Rules & Act: 100 marks, 2 hours duration, Objective & Multiple Choice. Syllabus includes Bihar Motor Vehicle Rules, 1992, Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, and Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989.
    • Note: No negative marking for wrong answers.
    • Interview: Candidates will be invited for an interview based on their written exam performance. The interview evaluates overall personality, subject knowledge, current affairs, creativity, positivity, and suitability for work in the Transport Department.
      • Minimum qualifying marks for interview: Unreserved-40%, Backward Class-36.5%, Extremely Backward Class-34%, SC/ST & Women-32%.
      • Interview marks distribution includes marks for Matriculation/equivalent, Diploma percentage, experience (3 marks per additional year after minimum qualifying period, max 9 marks), specialization in Automobile Engineering/Post Diploma (6 marks), and Interview performance (25 marks).
      • Final merit list will be based on the total aggregate marks out of 450 (300 for written exam + 125 merit marks from rules + 25 interview marks). Appearing in the interview is mandatory.
  • Part-II: Selection based on Interview only
    • If the ratio of vacancies to eligible candidates (after scrutiny of applications) is less than 1:10, selection will be based only on interview.
    • Final merit list for Part-II will be based on total marks out of 150.

  • Note: An additional Biometric fee of ₹200/- will be charged if Aadhaar number is not provided as ID proof. Fees are non-refundable.

How to Apply Candidates must apply online through the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) website: www.bpsc.bihar.gov.in or https://bpsconline.bihar.gov.in.

  1. One Time Registration (OTR): Mandatory for applying to various BPSC examinations. Register on https://bpsconline.bihar.gov.in. Use a valid active email ID and mobile number.
  2. DigiLocker Account: After OTR, the DigiLocker Meri Pehchan Portal will open. Sign in if you have an account or create a new one to link documents.
  3. Profile Creation (Six Steps):
    • Step 1 (Personal Information): Fill in personal details, caste, category, disability, sports, ex-servicemen, NCC, government employee status.
    • Step 2 (Address Information): Enter permanent and correspondence addresses.
    • Step 3 (Other Information): Provide details of any criminal proceedings or convictions.
    • Step 4 (Qualification Information): Enter academic qualifications from 10th standard onwards, including marks, percentage, board/university, passing date, etc.
    • Step 5 (Experience Information): If applicable, provide details of relevant work experience.
    • Step 6 (Upload Photo / Signature and Profile Lock): Capture a live photo via webcam. Upload English and Hindi signatures (max 20kb, width 150-220px, height 250-320px). Confirm information and “Submit and Lock Profile.”
    • Note: Once profile is locked, certain details (name, father’s name, mother’s name, gender, Aadhaar, date of birth) cannot be changed.
  4. New Application: After profile creation and lock, active advertisements will appear in the “New Application Tab”. Click “View” then “Check Advertisement Criteria” and “Submit & Pay Fees.”
  5. Important Instructions:
    • No hard copy of the application or supporting documents needs to be sent to the commission office.
    • Candidates must ensure they possess all qualifications claimed in the application before the written examination.
    • Keep the registered email ID and mobile number active until the final result is published.
    • Upload clear photo via webcam and clear scanned Hindi and English signatures.
    • Keep 4 copies of the latest photograph safe for future use.
    • Download and print two copies of the submitted application form from the “My Account Tab” after successful submission and payment. Ensure Application Number, Application ID, and Bar Code are present on each page.
